Synopsis
A feature-length documentary film profiling children living in poverty in six cities around the world (Rio de Janeiro, New York City, Melbourne, London, Mumbai, Nairobi). Children and youth make up large proportions of populations living in slums around the world – often, more than 50 percent. Their productive and creative potential is key to developing strategies for livable and sustainable cities. The Place of Children has a double meaning: it references children’s living environments as well as their role in community development. This film aims to bring awareness to the capacities of the urban poor and to help development agencies, governments, rights organizations, and local communities effectively address the challenges confronting cities today.
